Behind the Lyrics of Avangeline

I thought it was about time I explained the meaning behind my first single Avangeline.
I wrote the song Avangeline in Autumn of 2021. I got inspiration for this song with my obsessive phase with Girl In Red (Still obsessed, it was not a phase) I wanted to write Avangeline about the pressures and struggles I faced going on dates with women
This song stemmed from me coming to terms with the fact that I liked women. It shows my struggle of facing it, along with the complex dating world.
I knew that I really liked this woman, but I was confused myself. I was struggling to come to terms with this and what this meant. In the bridge of Avangeline, you can see my conflict when it comes to admitting and coming to terms with being bisexual.
I started off the song setting the scene of meeting/ seeing someone. I wanted to portray the initial feelings of happiness, doubt and fear. "My heart baby, can we keep this our sacred space" I feel like this line helps to convey this message.
As we get deeper into the song, I bring in the line "I love this pretty time of year when the leaves from the trees, I love the way they fall about and dance like they are free" This was to show how I didn't feel safe or "free" to express or except who I was and that I wish I did.
"I know the difference of right and wrong, but what are we" This line was to show how I knew what I was feeling was right, but some part in my mind doubted it.
In the chorus I go onto a realisation that I want to be with her, almost like I'm begging her to help me through my struggles and hold me. The dynamic vocal change in the chorus helps me to portray this as it almost sounds like I'm crying out/ seeking help.
In the beginning of the second verse I go onto describing her and essentially day dreaming about her. As we get to the end of the second verse I bring back the line "I know the difference of right and wrong but what are we" showing that I am still struggling to come to terms with being Bi.
The bridge helps me to portray the conflict and state of confusion my mind was in. It was to showcase my instability during this time. "But I could hold you for a life time, but I need some space" Here you can see how I knew I was ready for a relationship but I was still needing space to figure out who I was and what this meant.
When it comes to the final verse, everything drops out and it becomes like a breath. I wanted to show how I took the time to breathe and figure things out. Showing I was ready to accept who I was.
Avangeline will always be a personal song for me, because it portrays perfectly the feelings I was going through at that time of my life. It tells my story in a way.
If you haven't listened to Avangline, or you want to listen to it again.
